Virginia Derby Day 5k & Party on the Green
Saturday July 19th, 2008 | Colonial Downs, New Kent County, Virginia
Please join us for Virginia's first horse track 5k race - a festive family day at the track held in conjunction with a $1,000,000 day of thoroughbred horse racing at Colonial Downs.
The race starts in front of Colonial Down's and finishes on the track with hundreds of spectators and a televised last half mile on the track jumbotron and closed circuit television.
Your race registration will get you a Virginia Derby gym bag and admission to the Picnic on the Turn. The Picnic on the Turn is a new area on the first turn of the race track that Colonial Downs has set aside for our post race awards ceremony and party. Here, you are allowed to bring food (no grills), beverages (no booze) and stay to watch the horse racing. Additional tickets are available to the Picnic on the Turn Party to family members for $5 (a $5 savings). The Picnic on the Turn will offer betting stations, food, beer, wine and booze sales and some shade tents to keep you cool. Make sure to bring lawn chairs or a picnic blanket. The area opens to the general public at 11 AM.
Participants may also purchase all-inclusive tickets to the Trackside Party with live entertainment beer, wine and catered lunch for an additional $25. This will also get you admission into the Picnic on the Turn.
Packet pickup occurs 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM in front of Colonial Downs with a new race start time of 9:30 AM. Race packets, chips and tickets to the party on the green will be handed out at that time.
